EXACTLY what I needed!!!
In my lifetime, I've purchased & tried MANY MANY trash cans...I was VERY HAPPY to stumble upon this little gem when I was walking through the Container Store one afternoon. There was a bronze-colored one + a silver one on display. They were SO much more attractive to look at than every one of the expensive, fancy automatic cans around them!I loved it the minute I saw it!It has the look of a bullet trash can (which I love & had been looking for); the color & design make the can look much more expensive & attractive than other cans.MOST IMPORTANTLY, this trash is larger & holds MUCH MORE trash than the usual 13gal cans I've always owned! And, although its larger in size, it still looks good in my kitchen! Perfectly sized, not too big; not too small!I stalked Amazon until it went on sale & purchased TWO of the bronze colored cans--one for trash, the other for recyclables.I have them sitting side by side in my kitchen & they look great w/ my kitchen decor!!These cans hold aloooot more than any other can Ive owned! It works perfectly as either a trash can or for recyclables!!The swing top is great, easy to toss trash into it. It's a piece of cake to empty when its full: just lift off the top & pull out the bag! This can also has a rim cover under the swing lid that holds trash bags in place (which I love). As for the trash bags...I tried the 13 gal ones (w/ drawstring) I had at first; which I was able to stretch & fit, but would fall down into the can as soon as the bag got near full. I tried the tie top 13 gal bags, which also fit; but since they don't reach to the bottom of the can, would fall in when the bag was full.So...I found larger bags (on Amazon &/or Walmart. The 18-20 gal bags fit fantastically, so I prefer to buy them for this can. They're not much more $ than 13 gal ones & they really do hold ALOT MORE trash &/or recyclables!!This can is not noisy like the automatic cans & step lid cans Ive owned; the top swings open & you put in your trash. It's only noisy if your kids use it like a drum as mine did when I first bought it...This can is made of heavy duty (plastic-like?) material; both the lid, rim & can are sturdy (enough to withstand the multiple times I've dropped it & the abuse of my 2 little ones messing with it).The assembly is this:*Open shipping box*Put can on the floor*Put bag in can*Put rim cover on*Put lid on topQuite simple...Anehewww- this can is GOOD STUFF!!!I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND BUYING THIS!!!And if you (hopefully) recyxle, buy a second one for that!!Thank you once again Umbra!!

Feeling defeated in your trash can search?
I used to think dedicated trash drawers were a coveted kitchen feature solely due to the minimalist/clean look of hiding a trash can and space saving. Now I know the truth. It was time to buy a new trash can. A household item that I somehow managed to avoid purchasing my entire life thanks to roommates already having one and then leaving behind. The one I had was simply too narrow, ripping the bag of it got too full as you fought against it to take out the trash. And it was short enough that our 1 year old dog was able to nose the lid and get into it.I began my search thinking it would be far more straightforward and less time consuming than when I was in the market for a cat tower. Then an hour passed and I was feeling less confident but still hopeful the search would end soon. Another hour passed and all hope was lost.It reminds me of a 30 Rock episode where they are tasked with creating “a giant, flimsy microwave.” If you’re not privileged enough to be able to snag a simple can because you don’t have enclosed spot to contain smells and keep away pets, you’re faced with reality of having to drop well over $50 for a TRASH CAN - most of which seem to be $80+ - that is far too lightly to break within 6 months. If you’re lucky, you get a good year out of a place to store TRASH. That doesn’t even include the likelihood that the one you buy will simply rip the bag to shreds, assuming it lets you take the bag out at all. And I saw many that were delivered damaged to begin with.So I gave up my search that day. The next morning, feeling refreshed and determined, I decided to change priorities. This trash can was tall enough that our dog cannot nose her way into the lid. Although the size makes our remaining 13 gallon bags slip down when it gets too heavy, there is zero opportunity for the can to cause a rip in the bag. The swing lid is such a basic engineering concept, there is virtually no chance it will wear out and stop working for years to come. The depth will be difficult for my arms to reach into and clean when the time comes, and yet it will still be far easier to thoroughly clean than my previous one as it’s the equivalent of washing a cup the size of a 4 or 5 year old. And it doesn’t look cheap. The charcoal/grey color is actually very appealing.I was worried on how difficult it would be to use while cooking, but there are two parts to the lid. So if ease of access is necessary, I can take off the swing lid and the bag is still set in place by the ring. And finally, the size, although larger than what I originally set out to get and somewhat odd for available trash bag sizes, is a game changer. Imagine getting full use out of your trash bag instead of pulling it out and realizing how much more you could fit. The swing top doesn’t restrict the size of items you’re tossing as much as I anticipated, either, and so far we haven’t had any bad smell issues. If you have found yourself just as frustrated and hopeless in your trash can search as I was, this is where your search stops. Save that extra $30+ you would spend on other models. This one is worth it.

High quality trashcan with larger capacity but a smaller footprint.
While using a walker because of mobility issues, the old rectangular trashcan in the kitchen was in the way and had to go.This can fits neatly in a corner with a much smaller footprint but still accommodates a 20-gallon kitchen bag. The base has a round collar that slips over the top to hold the bag in place. It works very well. Even the day we cleaned out the fridge and completely filled the can, the bag never slipped loose and slid down inside. The top dome piece fits smoothly over the base and comes off easily to change bags or drop in something large.I really wanted a stainless steel can, but they are way more expensive than I was willing to pay. This dark brown plastic can is very solid, wipes clean easily and is decent looking. I think the metallic bronze color finish on the flap and the base collar helps it look higher end than the usual plastic can.
