I've used Sani-System disinfectant and Pro Products Res Care to keep my old water softeners clean and running for some years. I love both products, but lately it's become impossible to purchase either product in reasonable quantity for home use. Neither product is needed more that 2-4 times per year for most peoples' water setup. I don't know of any expiration date on either product, so I suppose I've got a lifetime supply. Or maybe I can use as stocking stuffers at Christmas.

I opted not to use a pre-filter on my softener because I have city water and it's usually good. However, over the course of a year things happen and I'm guessing the water coming in was not always pristine. Over time the water had developed a slight smell, almost like the smell of a river which isn't terrible but really I'd prefer my water have no smells at all.I keep my hot water heater pretty hot so I didn't think anything was going on there. The next most likely culprit was the resin tank. If some plume of dirt or rust comes in through the main line it's possible a standard regen can't quite clear it all. That's where this product and the ResCare cleaner come in (I use them both at the same time). After using these two products the smell of the water is reduced to the point I'm not even sure I'm smelling anything at all.I suspect if I do the same at my next regen the smell will be gone completely. I like the fact that this sanitizer uses quaternary compounds and not bleach; bleach is really terrible for resin beads. I honestly had no idea that water softeners need this kind of regular maintenance but I suppose it makes sense, particularly if you don't use a pre-filter setup.My next project is to get a spin down filter installed.

Bought to sanitize water softener. Hard to know if it is working or not but it was easy to use.

Amazing product! Sanitizes entire water softener. Noticed a difference right away. Pleasant scent, simple to use. Highly recommended by my water softener company, but much less expensive to do this part your self. Wouldn’t be without it.

This product works great. Machine was smelling a little stale and have used this and machine is clean and has no smell. Use it every 2 or 3 months. Great product for keeping your machine clean and smelling good.

This stuff is great, use it every 6 months to clean our water softener. Also use the reverse osmosis cleaner to clean our under sink ro unit.
