Excellent so far on a 30hp 40-stroke outboard motor
Installation was very easy. With recommended number of turns the reading was very close to the actual RPM reading when hooking up the ECU to my computer (e.g. 850 vs 880 rpm) so I didn't need to tweak by changing the number of turns. Used for 25 hours in the sea with lots of spray- perfect function so far. Manual is easy to understand. Excellent for its price so far.

Pull out the protective tab from the battery
I bought this to take RPM readings on my Honda quad while setting the pilot jet on the carb after a carb jet refurb. I know this may seem obvious, but if you've never used one of these cheap inductive tachos before, you might think, as I did, that the receipt of an induced current might turn the display on. The units are basic, so they have no on off function and don't get triggered to come online by a stimulus current. The battery is isolated so it isn't discharging prior to the unit's sale. The meter ships with a plastic tab sitting between the battery and its contact and you have to remove the battery cover and pull out this tab to operate the unit. It's then permanently online till the battery runs out.

Worth the price to keep track of engine hours
Bought this to keep track of the hours run on my new Hayter mower so that I don’t run over the service schedule. Some hour meters run to over £100 so this seemed like a bit of a bargain and worth a punt. This tacho and hour meter has an inductive pickup wire which loops around the high tension cable (at least 5 loops for accuracy).I cable tied mine one and secured with cloth tape as it won’t melt like electrical tape. The tacho seems accurate but I don’t have anything to judge it against on my mower. The standard 1 spark per rotation was right for my single cylinder Honda engine. Some of the hour meters work off vibrations and don’t have a replaceable battery where as this works off the spark signal and you can change the battery.I took a couple of photos, one of the hour meter which is the default display unless the engine is running, one of the tickover of the mower and one of full throttle.

Not really worth it
Pretty useless tbh was a pain to get working properly and when it did work wasn’t useful for seeing my rpm as the refresh rate is slow then my bowel movements

A great thing when working
Bought one of these for my outboard motor and unfortunately it stopped working after only 15 hours of use. I have bought another one since incase it was a faulty product seems to work OK for now with about 20 hours of run time so far

Surprisingly good
Purchased to help with tuning the carburettor in my chainsaw.I chose a wired model because you would need 3 hands to hold a wireless tach while operating the saw at maximum revs. The unit works well and the chainsaw is now running as it should. For some reason the display cuts out briefly from time to time, but doesn't affect the use.Stores max RPM which is useful.I found wrapping the cable around the HT lead to be a bit fiddly for chainsaw use, so I attached a crocodile clip to the end of the cable. Much easier and quicker to use, with no noticible difference in performance.

Easy to fit
Was a bit concerned as to the fitting as there is hardly any room under the tank of my Honda 500 Rebel. I could have taken the tank off but I thought I would give it a go. No problem, took me a few minutes to wind about ten turns round one spark plug lead. Checked the revs and it was obvious that they were much too high on tickover so I opted for the number two setting which brought the reading down to about 800 at tickover which is fine. For safety I used a couple of cable ties to fit the double side tape to the bars. Very happy.
