Outside vs Indoor Cat
This volume was cute as usual but also one of the most emotional volumes to date. Not sad, just a lot of empathy for the characters, especially the animal ones. Starts off with Chi mastering her cone and then getting it removed. But then the Yamadas decide she should be a house cat for her own safety. Chi is confused, why can't she leave? This is sad and frustrating for Chi and yet we also feel for the owners. (My personal opinion is that cats should be house cats). But Cocchi has been waiting for her since the last visit. Cocchi is expectantly waiting for his new found friend and the stray becomes lonely, hostile and lonely as time goes by and Chi doesn't return. But after Mr. Yamada's brilliant idea to take Chi for a walk on leash blows up in his face Chi is free and rushes off to find her friend. Can Chi ever go home again? Will they now lock her up and not let her out? She decides to spend the night with Cocchi and try the "free-living life" and emotions are tugged throughout until the heartwarming, and a bit surprising, ending. A nice change of pace from the other volumes, gives a bit of new life to the series.

Homeward Stray
Blurb:Kittens are a resourceful lot. From an early age, through play and exploration they learn to hunt for their food and define their territory, much like the big cats of the savannah and jungle. And strays, in particular, continue to display such behaviour as they utilise all their instincts to take advantage of their environment to survive in this day and age. So when a kitten stray is taken out of its element and introduced to the decadent lifestyle of the pampered housecat, there may be a bit of a kitty culture shock in store.Contents:147 - a cat dislikes148 - a cat begs149 - a cat is impatient150 - a cat is crossed151 - a cat is linked152 - a cat is unleashed153 - a cat hurries154 - a cat waits155 - a cat is irritated156 - a cat is misunderstood157 - a cat yearns158 - a cat apprentices159 - a cat practices160 - a cat is sleepy161 - a cat is hunted162 - a cat is exhausted163 - a cat is the same as ever164 - a cat feels at homea cat goes to ChinaAdditional InformationIn this volume, Chi Yamada is the housecat, learning tricks of the trade from purring pal Cocchi, the stray. Then Cocchi becomes the first "cat" mentioned in the contents not to be Chi. At least it certainly looks that way- especially considering the last page of that chapter. The bulk of the book is about the friendship of the two kittens, and how different their lives are. The book starts off with cone-head Chi, still fresh from the vet. A short time later, she wants to be let outside to meet up with Cocchi, but the Yamadas have only just decided to make her an indoor pet. A futile dream given that Chi has already been allowed out so often, and once cats get a taste of the outdoors trying to keep them indoors is like trying to open a can of soda safely after shaking it vigorously. Then they decide to try and leash walk her- which was quite funny to read since I tried and failed at the same thing. And then Chi and Cocchi get to run around outside together, with Cocchi teaching Chi where and how to find food on the streets. The last chapter is my favourite, possibly because of all Cocchi's serious reactions to indoor life and Chi's "carelessness".The bonus content- "a cat goes to China"- is all about a special promotion they did at KFC in China. Special combo mealboxes were decorated with Chi, and they came with 4 assortments of adorable Chi mobile phone straps. All the posters, merchandise and promotional menus/mealboxes are shown in full colour here- and they're awesome.Sneakily at the end of the book, there's a hint of Volume 10's plot line. It came as a bit of a shock to me actually, and I am still wondering what it could mean. I would tell you what it is, but I bet you're curious if you haven't already seen it. I encourage you to buy this book- not just to find out- but because it's awesome! You can pre-order/buy Volume 10 NOW!!! Chi's Sweet Home, Volume 10

Chi is Fantastic
Chi's Sweet Home is a joy to read. I look forward to every new volume and can't wait to read about what Chi and her family will be getting up to as they adjust to each other in their charming and sometimes bittersweet ways. The watercolour art of this series is absolutely beautiful and if you're a fan of cats and/or slice-of-life manga then there's no reason why you shouldn't look into this series.I'd recommend it to people of any age, as Chi's stories can be enjoyed by the very young and very old alike.

Cute
My 10-year-old just loves the story of this cat. They are drawn in soft pastels and each book is a collection of short "happenings".
