This Is as much a memoir as a book on how to write successfully. Anne Lamott has an easy, humorous and conversational style of writing which results in an engaging read. The one big put off though is the overuse of her belief in god which just didn’t sit well with me.

Candid, funny and compassionate!
A candid book on motivations to write, dealing with oneself and finding the courage to speak up. Filled with compassion and little jokes. I found myself having to share passages with those around me. Annes got a very pointed wit that makes the book a great read. I will be recommending this one in future!

Highly recommended.
Anne Lamott has a passion for writing, for family and for loving her fellow human beings. Despite her own difficulties in life she shares without holding back and this book is a joy to read. For anyone struggling to get words on a page - read this and be consoled. It's not as easy as you think, but it can be done.

All writers should read this
I had come to a halt in both my writing and reading, and I have Anne Lamott to thank for falling in love with both all over again. She shares so much wisdom and insight on the art of writing, that it would be impossible for you to not fall in love with the craft and find inspiration again. As well as helpful tips and advice the story is layered with touching and insightful stories that will make you laugh and then bring you round to that "a-ha" moment. I would highly recommend this to any writer or anyone who loves the art of writing.

I Love Anne Lamott - A very keen intelligence and a sensitive soul.
If you're a writer and you're ever stuck, read Anne Lamott. She has a great sense of humour and she an equally great turn of phrase.

Parts were self-indulgent
I like it - in parts. Sometimes I feel the author is trying too hard to be funny and I am not sure what point she is trying to make.... over the space of 3 pages! Has some valuable tips for writers though. Not much that we do not know.

Witty, funny, wise, profound.
This book made me laugh out loud, it made me cry, it made me very grateful for the wisdom found within. I found myself reading sections to friends out loud, it's that good. Just buy it, is all I can say.

I have both enjoyed and learned from this book and I am recommending ...
I am engaged in an educational form of research (Living Theory research: some details on http://www.actionresearch.net) and I have been wondering how to describe the process. Anne Lamott's reflections on writing and life provide both food for thought and inspiration. I have both enjoyed and learned from this book and I am recommending it to some of those I work with who find themselves stuck as they begin their research.
