This LykoClean composter has really short cycle times. Most of my cycles range anywhere from 3-5 hours. During this time, you really can’t smell much. If you do have a lot of fresh vegetables, you might smell the veggies a little bit if you’re up-close to the composter. The composter is compact and easy to fit on any countertops under cabinets.

Bad news is that it stopped working after barely any use. Good news is that it stopped working under 30 days so I can return it.With that said, I contacted the company and left a message. They have only a couple of days to get back to me before I initiate the return through Amazon. My hope is that they are able to help me without going through the return process but it's doubtful. I will update this review after I found out how this is all handled. Now for the actual product review itself.I was very impressed with the packaging, the look, the feel, the size, the operation of this product. The learning curve was short. It's super easy to use and it does what it says it will do well.*One thing to note though, is that this produces a "pre-compost", meaning, since it uses heat during the process, the finished product will not have the microbes and healthy bacteria that traditional finished compost will have. But it can be added to some finished compost and it will quickly become "finished" or infused over a short time.Here's where things go south. I've been using it for light duty stuff; meaning just vegetable waste and coffee grounds and it has done fine for a little under a month. But after completing a cycle today it went into "storage mode", which is one of the reasons I got this specific composter.Storage mode means that when the cycle is done the machine will go into a rest type of mode where a UV light turns on inside the bin preventing fruit flies and such to grow. It also churns the material periodically so that the material doesn't just sit and get moldy. I didn't see any other machines that had this feature which is why I got this one. But somewhere during the "storage mode" the lights on the machine all started blinking.I went to the instruction guide and to troubleshooting. The good news is that basically for every error, whether it be from overheating or a the blades getting jammed up with some to hard or big, the resolution is to reset the machine by holding the power button and the "clean" button simultaneously for either 5 seconds or 10 seconds depending on the situation. That's simple and I like simple.Unfortunately for me, holding the two buttons for 5, 10, 30 or more does nothing. It just keeps blinking. I've unplugged it and plugged it back in several times, I've taken the bucket out and put it back in several times, I've opened the lid and closed it several times. I've done the above in different sequences and even at the same time when possible to no avail. It just keeps blinking and doesn't register the fact that I'm holding the two buttons to initiate a reset. Maybe my unit was just faulty that way, I don't know. But I know I'm disappointed as I have really enjoyed using this machine up till now.The most concerning thing about the whole malfunction though, is the fact that it didn't go into this error mode because I overloaded it or put something too hard or too big in it. No, it was just in storage mode with finished pre-compost in the bin. It had finished the compost cycles hours prior. So it literally went into this mode randomly. Because of that fact, as much as I want to return this machine for another one just like it, I very skeptical. I haven't decided yet.That's why I said that I will update this after I hear from the company. Maybe they're aware of a way to reset it that wasn't covered in the book. Maybe they'll replace it at no cost and cover the shipping. If not, I will return via amazon return policy and research other composters for something comparable. I hope this was helpful.

I am genuinely surprised that no one mentioned this aspect of this unit, and I wish they had, because I wouldn't have bought it. My wife and I didn't have room for it in our kitchen so we installed it in a nearby shed. The compost itself doesn't have an odor, but after several days of running the unit in our shed, the smell is literally stomach-turning. It claims to be odorless! We used it exactly as directed and inserted the carbon filter. Maybe we got a defective unit, but even after removing the composter and leaving the door open to the shed for several days, the smell has not lessened one bit. It is truly disgusting and I'm afraid we're going to have to take everything out of the shed and wipe it down with a skunk odor eliminating solution, and even then, I'm concerned we won't be able to get rid of the smell. I notice now the composter is no longer available. I wonder if this was part of the problem? I can't imagine running it in your house unless you have no sense of smell at all.

There is unpleasant odor u can smell based on the type of food you put in. Its not grinding the food as fine powder. I would like a composter with no odor and which makes a fine powder
