Burg Wachter 273S Sold Secure Gold Approved D Lock, Grey/Black, Large

Having bought a quite pricy electric bike 2nd hand I wanted a slightly more beefed up lock at a reasonable price and this came in as my choice due to it's 'sold secure gold' rating and relatively low price. Though some reviewers remarked on struggles in use I've found it easy to lock and unlock. It's a weighty piece of kit - I carried it on my rear rack at first and had to put a layer of thick bubble wrap between it and the rack to stop the jarring sound as I rode along. A mounting kit is supplied keeping it in the small backpack I carry anyway. Obviously you don't know it's effectiveness until someone attempts to nick the bike but it seems very sturdy and the rating gives you that bit of confidence. I would recommend!

Feels very strong and would prevent someone from nicking your bike in a few seconds. Sometimes fiddly to unlock lock and very heavy, but I am using it and trust it. Using with the a cable too. Big enough to loop through wheel and down seat pipe.

There is a shake after locking..

My Lock turned up today by Burg Watcher, and i was VERY Surprised.2 days ago i picked up a cryptonite lock for 34 UK Pounds, that came with A Cable.This new Lock by Burg has a thicker U part (shackle), it is also BIG.I went for the Large one, it should give more locking options.There are plenty of reviews where people complain that the key is stiff, or Jammed.I nearly let those put me off buying this lock, but then read reviews on the Cryptonite locks as well. To my surprise people were also complaining about stuck key, difficult locking/unlocking.Between these 2 locks (both brand new) the Burg Watcher is smooother to lock/ unlock.Not by much but smoother all the Same, i plan to carry my lock in my Rucksack or maybe on my rear Rack.Weight/ size is no problem for me, i gather these locks are hard to mount on some bikes. (no biggy) Burg Watcher make other things including safes, that is what made me think HELLO a safe with a dodgy lock is not a safe Anymore. So there it is my initial review/ first look at this lock. Its half the price of a Cryptonite i say go buy one.THE UPDATE.having used both locks for a while now, the cryptonite is the more fiddly to undo.My tips are .Make sure the key is fully in the lock, and that oiling the keyway is fine.Also remember that the moving part of the lock also needs cleaning and oiling.FURTHER UPDATE the lock is still working just fine, as i said make sure the key is all the way into the lock.

The media could not be loaded. After using it for about 2 years, the lock fails to function properly (difficult to lock/unlock). I notice this particular issue was also raised by others. Really disappointed as the lock price was not so cheap. The lock has never been exposed to rain or extreme condition. Only use it as an additional security tool when keeping my bike at flat's bike storage.

UPDATE: Bought 2 more (4 in total) in size medium for easy carry and quick stops. I've left a large lock on the gym bike stand (so I don't have to carry it) and I double lock whenever I go (see photo). I really like these locks! 😊Quick Review: Thick, heavy duty and robust. Both sides of the shackle lock to the barrel which makes it even tougher to penetrate. The shackle is very thick. You'd need an angle grinder to cut it so should resist most attacks.Just keep in mind, there's no lock on earth that can't be broken, cut or penetrated in some way. You can't blame the lock when some b*****d steals your property.The included bracket won't last on regular use with the hefty large D-Lock. Should last longer with the medium lock.I have a 2.5m long Oxford motorcycle chain and disc lock which wraps around a pillar and all the way around my bike. These D-Locks are for added security (see photo). This combination has already deterred 3 attempts!Squirt some chain lube into the keyhole to prevent the lock seizing. Haven't had any issues and highly recommend others do the same. This is part of normal lock maintenance.These locks are amazing value for money and punches well above its weight. I've just received this item last night. Opened it this morning. The first thing I noticed was that the key would not go in the lock straight away. I initially thought it was the wrong key. However, after much jiggling, I eventually managed to get the key to go into the lock.Even so, I still find the lock quite stiff and fiddly. The key has to go in only one way. Sometimes I find I put the key in and it won't unlock. So I have to take the key out, flip it round, and then reinsert it. However, the key still requires a fair bit of jiggling in the lock before it will engage and unlock.I guess this could mean that it's more difficult to pick, and hopefully the would-be thieves would give up. However, it's a bit of a nuisance if you're in a hurry and need to get your bike unlocked in a hurry. For example, say, if you're rushing to get on a train, or maybe late for work.

This lock is really heavy and will deter thieves. No problem with lock mechanism though I did give it a drop of oil. With these types of plate locks you do need to wiggle the key.

Durch die flexible Anbringung unterhalb des Sattels ist das Schloss sehr komfortabel untergebracht und stört nicht beim fahren. Das Gewicht ist relativ gering. Mit dem Schließmechanismus bin ich insgesamt gut zurecht gekomnmen. Ob es einen Diebstahl verhindern kann weiß ich nicht - es sieht aber robust aus...

Für den Preis ein robustes undsicheres Schloß bekommen.

The media could not be loaded. Schon das zweite Schloss, das nach einigen Tagen nicht mehr schließt. Zum Glück habe ich es immer noch gerade aufbekommen, bevor gar nichts mehr ging, sonst hätte ich es auch noch aufflexen lassen müssen.Nicht kaufen!

Ich habe dieses Schloss nach dem Testbericht der Stiftung Warentest gekauft. Dort schneidet das Schloss bei der Sicherheit hervorragend ab, erhält allerdings schlussendlich keine gute Note, weil Schadstoffe in der Ummantelung gefunden wurden. Da ich das Schloss nur im freien einsetze, war mir das allerdings herzlich gleichgültig.Das Schloss funktioniert soweit. Problematisch ist allerdings, dass es gerade im Winter gerne mal festfriert. Um das zu verhindern, spraye ich regelmäßig Schmiermittel ins Schloss. Das ist eine Sauerei, verdrängt allerdings das Wasser. Ich musste das Schloss allerdings im freien bereits mehrfach mit dem Wasserkocher enteisen. Das ist schon lästig. Wegen des günstigen Preises und der gut getesteten Sicherheit, würde ich es allerdings trotzdem wieder kaufen. Insgesamt dennoch nur 3 Sterne.
